【かぞく(1)】

a [one's] family（◆夫婦とその子供から成るものを基本とするが,時にその夫婦の親や親戚(しんせき)も含む）,《口語的》one's folks（◆《米》では特に当人の両親をいう）

[語法]

(1)familyは,家族を1つの単位とみなす場合は単数扱い,家族の構成員に重点をおく場合,特に《英》では複数扱いになることがある∥うちの家族はみな相撲のファンだ　《英》My family are all sumo fans.
(2)家族の構成員の多い少ないはlarge, smallで表す∥彼の家は大家族です　He has a large family.（◆×He has many families.とはしない.familiesは「複数の家族（家庭）」の意味）
(3)folksは複数扱い.

◆*家族的な雰囲気のある民宿　a family‐run inn with a homey [《主に英》homely] atmosphere / 仕事が忙しくて家族サービスをしている（→家族といっしょに過ごす）暇がほとんどない　I'm so busy at work that I have very little time to spend with my family. / きのうは家族サービスで遊園地に行った　I took my family to an amusement park to spend quality time with them.（◆quality timeは「（仕事を離れて）子供と過ごす楽しい時間」の意味）
