①【苦痛を感じる】suffer(自)(他);（苦労する）have difficulty (in) doing
*彼は長いこと病気で苦しんでいる　He's been suffering from (a) disease for a long time.
*飢えに苦しむ人々を助けなければならない　We must help people suffering from hunger.
*その国の国民は重税に苦しんでいた　People of the country were suffering from [under] a heavy tax burden.

②【困る】be troubled;（当惑する）be at a loss
*毎晩隣の部屋の騒音に苦しんでいる　I am troubled [annoyed] by the loud noises from the next room every night.
*思わぬ質問をされて返答に苦しんだ　Receiving an unexpected question, I was at a loss ｢for an answer [what to answer].
