[語法]
(1)叙述用法のnecessary, essentialは,主語に「人」ではなく「物事」をとり,しばしば《It is necessary [essential] (for人) to do》の形で用いられる∥もう一度来る必要がありますか Is it necessary for me to come again?≒Is it necessary that I (should) come again?なお,上記の文はIを主語にしてDo I need to come again?と言い換えることもできる.こちらのほうがやや口語的な表現.
(2)「…することが必要である」は文意に応じてmust, have to, should, ought to((, need))などの助動詞を用いて表すこともある.

【必要が・は】
*計画を見直す必要がある We need [have] to reexamine the plan.
*急ぐ必要はない You don't need [have] to hurry.≒There's no (need to) hurry.

*その店に行けば日常生活に必要なものはすべてそろいます You can get everything you need for your daily life at that store.
【必要だ】
*水はすべての生き物に必要である Water is ｢necessary for [indispensable to] all living things.
*あなたには休養が必要だ You need some rest.≒（→休養をとるべきだ）You should take a rest.
*その問題を解くのにあと数分必要だ I need a few more minutes to solve the problem.
*どんな問題にも柔軟に対処することが必要だ You need to deal with all kinds of problems flexibly.
*その仕事には忍耐力が必要だ The job requires a lot of patience.
*そのピアノは調律が必要だ The piano needs tuning.≒The piano needs to be tuned.（◆need doingはneed to be done「…される必要がある」の意味）
