【まずい】
①【味が悪い】not good, do not taste good
[語法]「まずい」は形容詞のbadではなく,not good「おいしくない」を使って遠回しに表現するのがふつう.また,badには「（食べ物が）腐っている」の意味もあり,例えばThis egg is bad.は,ふつう「この卵はおいしくない」ではなく「この卵は腐っている」の意味になる.
*この肉はまずい This meat doesn't taste good.*このレストランでカレーを食べたら,まずかった I ate curry and rice at this restaurant, and it was not good.◆*彼の作った料理は見るからにまずそうだった The food he made even looked disgusting. / こんなまずいものが食えるか！ I can't eat this garbage [《俗語》shit]!②【下手な】（技術などが劣っている）poor, bad;（ぎこちない）clumsy[参照]⇒へた(1)*まずい言い訳をして,彼はガールフレンドを余計に怒らせてしまった He made his girlfriend even more angry by making a poor [clumsy] excuse.*彼のまずい歌でせっかくのパーティーが台なしになった His bad singing spoiled the party.◆*私の説明のしかたがまずかった（→不適切だった）かもしれません I'm afraid my explanation was ｢not proper [lacking, inadequate].③【都合が悪い】bad;（状況・時期などが）awkward;（好ましくない）unfavorable,《英》unfavourable*我々の状況は非常にまずいことになっている Our situation is very bad.*今そのことを公表するのはまずい（→公表するにはふさわしくない時である） This is a bad [an awkward] time to make it public.*そのことが上司の耳に入るとまずいことになる It would be awkward if my boss heard about it.*彼はまずいときに私の事務所を訪ねてきた He visited my office at an awkward time.◆*彼をそこにひとりで行かせるのはまずい（→よい考えとは思わない） I don't think it is a good idea to let him go there alone. / 君が彼にその話をしたのはまずかった（→賢明ではなかった） It wasn't wise of you to tell him about that.
