日本の代表的健康食品である納豆は,蒸した大豆を納豆菌とともに発酵させたものです.消化がよく,タンパク質・カルシウム・鉄・ビタミン類を多く含んでいます.しかし,多くの外国人同様,納豆特有の臭みとねばりが苦手な日本人もいます.食べ方はいろいろですが,少量のからし,しょうゆ,刻んだネギを加え,ごはんにかけて食べるのが最も一般的です.
Natto, a typical Japanese health food, is made of soybeans steamed and then fermented with natto bacilli. It is an easily digested food and rich in protein, calcium, iron and vitamins. But its strong smell and stickiness are intolerable for some Japanese as well as for many foreigners. Although there are many ways of eating it, natto is most commonly mixed with a little mustard, soy sauce and chopped green onion and eaten as a topping for rice.
